I was looking forward to this photoshoot. Park Jung Ho is a Korean hair stylist based in Penang, Malaysia. His story is a story of humble beginnings. He first came to Penang about 6 years ago with almost nothing. Almost no money and almost no english. Actually... No english at all ! He started his business with a friend in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. The area wasn't the best first experience for him and business wasn't smooth-sailing. Long story short, he ended up in Penang and that was how I got to know him. He is a very soft-spoken and friendly person. He has improved his english since then and is always nice to have conversations with him. When he felt that it was time to design a logo, start a Facebook page and a website (coming soon), I was more than happy to help. As a korean hair-stylist, his hair cutting, styling and techniques definitely gives you a final korean-inspired look. He is meticulous. He takes time to ask what you want and also suggests what he thinks suits your face shape and image. He shapes your hair TO your face. I think all these sets him apart from some other hair-stylist or saloons. If you're looking for a korean haircut (Kpop is popular nowadays, isn't it ?) I highly recommend him as a hair-stylist and also a friend.
A photoshoot for Little Gem's International Branch in Penang, Malaysia. Lovely, happy children and full of energy !
Family portrait sessions outdoors, on-location will result in pictures that are more relaxed, genuine and timeless. Whether is playing at the park, or taking a walk at the beach, it definitely beats the ol' in-studio posed portraits where everyone is tense and have to smile or say "cheeeesseeee!" - Especially when you have young kids who can't keep standing still, or hold a pose for too long. Being outdoors and doing a family activity together helps them spend that energy and its a win-win situation for both parents and photographer. The parents won't be frustrated and the photographer gets to capture real emotions and smiles, making the parents extra-happy !
You just know when two people are in love, don't you ? Ben and Diana's, or as I rather call them collectively - Benjiana (take that Brangelina), engagement photoshoot was full of just that - love. I didn't have to try to capture it. If anything I had to contain it...haha. It was your typical, tropical, warm day and they had an idea they had prepared, so we worked on that first :
The balloons were brought originally just for Diana to fly away with Ben (To wed him in Alabama, of course). However those pretty pastle colors were too lovely to go to waste and so I pulled Ben, Diana and the balloon in close for some love-time. Right on cue, they turned up the love, complete with smiles, teasing and snugglewugglesiwuvvyous. Ben's rock climbing abilities also came in handy when he had to "fetch a balloon from a tree."
We headed back into our basement/cabin-look-a-like to cool off from the sun, rehydrate and to get a few more shots. I just had to tell them what I was going for and slip them some simple posing instructions. The "love" didn't require any instructions of course. Diana was close to getting on top of Ben at one point...for loving tickles, of course ;)
Another outfit change and another location. We took a walk in the garden and I got them to pose and "show me the love". It was already a warm afternoon. They just had to turned up the heat.
p/s : I wonder if and when they'll start adopting ? ;)
An intimate and beautiful custom-made black & gold vintage-inspired dinner theme, decorated by Customates. Dress code was vintage and "Gatsby" as well. Throw in some colorful marker pens, a cute baby, candles, wine, and you have a recipe for a laughter-filled evening ! My personal favourite moment was when the girl's surprised the birthday girl, Stef by stuffing the entire room with a headshot of her favorite K-pop artist, TOP. Of course as the photographer, I had to "confiscate" the heads momentarily afterwards so that it won't pop up in all the photos of the night ;) As it was a small intimate venue, and there were no plans for a Photo Booth to go along with this vintage-gatsby-theme, I brought along a small softbox and got them to pose for some portraits before we called it a night.
These five pretty, lovely ladies are high school friends of my wife, and they are each have very unique personalities and character. A loud, fun bunch to hang out with, laughter is a given and it's as if they like to howl at the moon together . Their event decor business is based in Penang. Their passion for each of their projects really show through and their clients and are always happy and mesmerized to walk into an event that they've designed, hand-crafted and set-up.
They have worked on many birthday events, ROM's, and weddings, and even clients such as Herbal Essence, Cuvee and E&O. I definitely recommend Customates if you have an event that requires a custom theme !
